Develop your PCK to help students grasp and apply subject knowledge
Developing pedagogical content knowledge is time-consuming for trainee teachers as specific knowledge is needed for each chemistry topic. However, researchers have found that teacher training in one topic can improve teachers’ abilities to develop their pedagogical content knowledge in other topics, too. In this article, David Read, principal teaching fellow in chemistry at the University of Southampton, assesses what this means for your classroom teaching and professional development strategies. He also provides tips to implement this approach in your science teaching.
